Edenya - Pairi Daiza
Edenya is the new world of the Pairi Daiza animal park, located in Cambron-Casteau, in the municipality of Brugelette in Belgium. It is the park's tenth universe.
The heart of the project is a huge tropical greenhouse, presented as the largest in the world: it measures 206 metres long by 192 metres wide and rises to 24 metres high, for a total surface area of around 40,000 m² under a 4-hectare glass roof.
Edenya aims to offer a complete immersion into the landscapes and ecosystems of the equatorial belt, combining dense forests, rivers, artificial mountains and aquatic zones. The site houses an impressive botanical inventory of 1,800 plant species, including rare specimens such as the coco de mer or direct descendants of the Bodhi tree.
On the wildlife side, five species are particularly highlighted: the Komodo dragon, the Antillean manatee, Parson's chameleon, the loggerhead turtle and the jaguar.
The site also offers an original accommodation experience, with themed lodgings integrated into the environment, some of which are located below water level, as well as a lazy river allowing visitors to observe the animals while swimming through the greenhouse.
The project has already secured several world records officially recognised by Guinness World Records, notably for the largest tropical greenhouse and the largest covered zoological ecosystem.
Dherte took part in the construction of this new world. Alongside CIT Blaton and BPC, the company participated in carrying out the structural works (gros œuvre) of this new tropical space under an immense 4-hectare glass roof, designed to house several rare species of animals and plants.
The works covered the construction of the buildings housing accommodation and dining areas, as well as the technical facilities needed for water treatment, tropical heating and animal care. Work progressed in step with the installation of the glass roof, laid in 2,500 m² sections, before the site was opened to visitors.
The entire construction site took place under the glass roof, which is more than 20 metres high, with loads moved by small cranes and structures cast in place, requiring a substantial workforce.
Dherte already has several completed projects for Pairi Daiza to its credit, including the white tiger enclosure, the two volcanoes, the koala enclosure, the Cambron lighthouse, the Izba restaurant, the Land of Cold (Terre du Froid) and the park's new entrance.
